Recreation Programs - Youth

 

BACKYARD GAMES

        Wiffle ball, kickball, capture the flag and soccer are just a few of the games that students will participate in during Backyard Games.

         Eligibility:Grades K-5th

         Location: Elementary Schools


         Dates: Fall (K-2)and Spring (K-5)


         Times: 3:05-4:05

         Fee: $100 / 8 Weeks         

BALLROOM DANCING

Learn the Merengue, Foxtrot, Salsa and Swing.

Eligibility:Pelham Residents grades 4th-7th

Location: Colonial School


Dates: Fall, Winter and Spring


Days/Times: Tuesdays, 5:15-6:00PM

Fee: $150 / 6 Weeks

BASKETBALL GRADES 4-5 Boy's League and Girl's League

Each elementary school will field a Boys and Girls Basketball team for grades 4 & 5.  Each school's team will compete in a round robin tournament.  Boys and Girls have separate leagues and games will be played weeknights.  (Mon-Thur) at the Hutchinson School Gym. The season will begin in the week of December 2nd, 2013.  You must register in advance.

Eligibility: Pelham Girls and Boys in Grades 4 & 5

Location: Practices held at each elementary school gym

                Games at Hutchinson Gym


Dates: December 2015 - March 2016

Days/Time: Practices between 3:15-5:00PM (once or twice a week)

BASKETBALL - BOYS (Grades 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th) LEAGUE

This will be a formal league playing a complete schedule of games.  All teams will have an adult coach.  Formal pre-season practices will be held by each coach to help develop your child's basketball skills.  Practice times and locations will depend upon the availability of the coach.

Eligibility: Pelham Boys Grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Location: PMHS


Dates: December-March


Days/Time: Games and Practices on Wednesday's and/or Friday's between 7:00-9:00PM

FIELD HOCKEY (GIRLS SPRING CLINIC)

Eligibility: Pelham Girls Grades 5-8

Location:  Franklin Field

Days/Times: Wednesdays, 6:00-7:30PM

FLAG FOOTBALL GRADES 4-5

Each elementary school will field a boys and Girls flag football team for grades 4 & 5.  This will be a formal league comprised of at least four teams and at lleast one for each elementary school.  The teams will each have a coach and the Recreation Department will provide officials.  Basic skills will be demonstrated, as well as an attitude of good sportsmanship.  Practices will be held two or threetimes a week from 3:15-5PM at your child's respective school.  Games will be held Fridays and / or Saturday, times and location TBA.

Eligibility: Pelham Girls and Boys in Grades 4 & 5

Location: Practices held at each elementary school gym

GYM TIME PLUS

KARATE

         This program is designed to teach men, women & youngsters of all ages.  The emphasis is

         on developing the individual's self awareness.  The weapon developed through American Goju

         Karate training is confidence.

MUD WEEK (MID-WINTER BREAK)

MUD week activities will take place during the February break.  Basketball Clinic, Basketball Plus Clinic , Soccer Clinic and Baseball Clinic.

PELHAM LITTLE LEAGUE

Little League offers to all Pelham children ages 5 - 15, the opportunity to participate in Little League baseball and softball.  There will be pre-registration for the spring season.  For further information contact John Nesi, Little League President at 738-7555

PELHAM RECREATION SOCCER

Pelham Recreation Soccer pre-registers for its Spring season.  Programs will be available for Grade 2, Grades 3-4, Grades 5-6, and Grades 7-10.  The program will consist of mid to late afternoon Saturday practices followed immediately by a game. This is typically a two hour program; we try and schedule it so it doesn't conflict with Spring sports such as Basketball, Soccer and Lacrosse.  We recognize in the Spring those sports will take precedence for children and in the event of conflicts they often attend their other sports, but they can still play Recreation Soccer.  For further information contact Recreation Soccer Commissioner, Brian Valente 772-7263 and Monica Mullen 355-5579 or visit www.pelhamsoccer.org.

ROWING

The Pelham community Rowing Association provides high quality rowing instruction and opportunities for competitive rowing residents of Pelham and lower Westchester County.  Programs include learn-to-row classes, intermediate classes, and masters and competitive master programs.  There is a youth team for high school students.  There is also winter rowing machine (ergometer) training

Eligibility:   Pelham  & Lower Westchester County Residents ages 14 and up

RUGBY

Children & Teenagers are invited to learn and play the exciting, international game of Rugby in a safe and fun-filled environment.  The basics of Rugby are taught while playing Flag Rugby, a non-contact form of the game.  Tackle Rugby is available to all those interested ages 11 and above.

TEEN CENTER AT THE YMCA - GRADES 6-12

We are pleased to announce thatm in conjunction with the Pelham Recreation Department, the New Rochelle YMCA (50 Weyman Avenue) has opened its doors to our teen center once a month.  Transportation to and from the YMCA is provided by Pelham Recreation or parents may transport their own children.  At the "Y", Pelham teens can enjoy basketball, swimming, racquetball and cardio-room.  The "Y" is open to only Pelham youngsters on this night.

Eligibility: Pelham Boys and Girls grades 6-12

TGA PREMIER JUNIOR GOLF

Come learn the lifelong sport of golf!  TGA Premier Junior Golf of Westchester county is offering a junior gold enrichment program.  maximum ratio of Coaches and Students will be 10 to 1.  Easch Class will have a minimum size of six and maximum size of twenty five.  The TGA curriculum utilizes drills and language that make it fun to learn golf for kids in grades K-5. As students advance through the 5 Level programs, they will learn basics and fundamentals of the sport, all the while being prepared to play on the golf course.

Eligibility: Children in grades K-5 who reside or attend school in Pelham

THEATRE ARTS

This acclaimed program encompasses a large volume of fun drama activities aimed at increasing, self-esteem, and verbal skills of all students.  Euthusiastic participation is encouraged at all times and students present short, scripted production at the end of each session for parents and friends.  Above all, they learn to speak clearly, act confidently and have fun.  For additional information call 738-0153.
